InvestFife Website Design Case Study

A short look at a recent project — the brief, the build and the result.

Overview

Creating a Digital Gateway for Business Growth and Investment in Fife

Internet Creation partnered with InvestFife to create a comprehensive digital platform that connects businesses, entrepreneurs and investors with the support, funding and opportunities available across Fife.

The website brings together business advice, commercial property, investment opportunities, sector information, events and local success stories within a clear and accessible online resource. It supports InvestFife's goal of promoting Fife as an attractive place to start, grow and locate a business.

About the Client

InvestFife is the collective brand for Fife Council's Economic Development services, including business enterprise, inward investment, land and commercial property support.

The organisation works with new and established businesses to encourage sustainable growth, attract investment and promote Fife as a competitive business location. Its services are free, impartial and designed to support organisations at different stages of their development.

InvestFife also works alongside Business Gateway Fife, providing access to one-to-one advice, workshops, specialist consultancy and practical support for start-up and growing businesses.

Project Overview

The objective was to create a modern business-support website capable of serving a wide range of audiences, including:

  • Entrepreneurs starting a business
  • Established companies planning to grow
  • Organisations looking for funding
  • Investors considering Fife as a location
  • Businesses searching for commercial premises
  • Companies seeking specialist advice
  • Local organisations looking for suppliers and partners

The Brief

The website needed to:

  • Promote Fife as a leading business location
  • Explain available business support clearly
  • Highlight funding and grant opportunities
  • Showcase land and commercial property
  • Support inward investment enquiries
  • Promote key sectors and investment opportunities
  • Publish business news and success stories
  • Manage events and workshops
  • Provide a searchable business directory
  • Generate enquiries for the relevant support teams
  • Offer a scalable content management system

Our Solution

Internet Creation designed and developed a bespoke WordPress website centred around clear user journeys, structured content and accessible business information.

The platform helps visitors identify support based on their immediate needs, whether they are starting a company, expanding an existing business, searching for premises or considering investment in Fife.

Dedicated sections explain the support available through InvestFife and Business Gateway Fife, while sector pages highlight the region's strengths across industries such as manufacturing, energy, tourism, financial services and food and drink.

A dedicated land and property section helps businesses explore available sites and premises while connecting them with InvestFife's property team. Fife Council's commercial portfolio includes almost 350 industrial and office premises, ranging from business centres to industrial units, food-production facilities and headquarters accommodation.

User Experience

Visitors to a business-support website often know the challenge they are facing but may not know which service or department can help.

The InvestFife website was therefore organised around common business needs rather than internal council structures. Users can move quickly towards relevant information on:

  • Starting a business
  • Growing an organisation
  • Finding funding
  • Improving efficiency
  • Developing international trade
  • Finding premises
  • Investing in Fife
  • Accessing training and specialist advice

Results & Outcomes

The completed website provides InvestFife with a central digital resource for promoting business support, investment and economic opportunity across the region.

  • A stronger digital identity for Fife's economic-development services
  • Clearer access to business advice and funding support
  • Improved promotion of commercial property and investment opportunities
  • Better visibility for Fife's priority industries
  • A searchable directory featuring hundreds of local businesses
  • Flexible publishing tools for news, events and success stories
  • Clear enquiry pathways for entrepreneurs, investors and established businesses
  • A scalable platform capable of supporting future economic-development campaigns

Why This Project Matters

InvestFife reports significant activity across its services, including support for more than 1,500 existing and growing businesses during 2024/25, alongside inward investment valued at £163 million.

Public-sector business websites often need to communicate a complex network of services, departments and funding programmes. The InvestFife project demonstrates how effective information architecture can turn that complexity into a useful and approachable digital experience.

Rather than simply publishing information, the website helps visitors identify opportunities, understand available support and take the next step towards starting, investing or expanding in Fife.
